Grow Up: Useful Tips That You Can Stop Calling Your Mom About

Parallel Parking: 1. Pull as close as you dare alongside the vehicle you wish to park behind and line up your steering wheel with that car (a little behind is better than a little in front). Stop. 2. Turn the steering wheel to the right until it stops. Back up until the headlights of the vehicle behind the space you are parking in disappear from your rear-view mirror. Stop. 3. Turn the steering wheel to the left until it stops. Back into the space. Straighten the wheels. You’ll be less than a foot from the curb, it works every time. Home Remedies:

  • Nighttime leg cramps. Place a bar of soap under your fitted sheet - it may sound like an old wives’ tale, but it really works!

  • Clogged ears. Close your mouth and pinch your nostrils closed with your fingers. Take a deep breath and blow the air out of your nose (while pinching it shut) to regulate air pressure.

  • Hiccups. Take a deep breath and hold it, swallow when you feel the next hiccup coming. OR get a glass of water, bend over, drink it from the opposite side - sometimes referred to as “drinking upside down".”

  • Brain freeze. Press the tip of your tongue hard against the roof of your mouth.

  • Stuffed nose. Take a hot shower - the steam will help loosen the mucus. No shower available? Put an ice cube in your mouth and press it to the roof for ~30 seconds - the cold will help to reduce inflammation.

Wearing Pointy-toed Heels: Tape your 3rd toe to your 4th toe – it stops nerve transmitting and pain in the ball of your foot Hang Posters Without Damaging the Wall (or the poster): (when command hooks don’t work – like for bare, unframed posters) 1. Tape a paperclip to the wall 2. Use a magnet to hold the poster in place Folding a Fitted Sheet:

  1. Fold the sheet in half and tuck the corners together.

  1. Fold top third of the sheet down

  1. Fold bottom third of the sheet up

  1. Take sides and bring to the middle

  1. Fold sheet in half

  1. Voila!

Stain Removal:

  • Sweat (pit stains) – Flip garment inside out and sponge with white vinegar until saturated. Rub in and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water. Apply laundry detergent and let it sit for 5 minutes. Launder on hottest water temperature recommended.

  • Chocolate – scrape off excess chocolate. Turn the garment inside out and run cold water through the stain. Lather liquid dish soap directly onto the stain and rub it gently. Soak the garment in cold water for 15 minutes. During the 15 minutes, check on the garment every 5 minutes and gently rub the soap into the stain with your finger. When the stain appears to be gone, rinse the garment thoroughly under cold water (this will help to determine if the stain is actually gone or not). If you can still see a faint remnant of the stain, use your favorite stain remover and wash as usual with cold water.

  • Coffee/Tea – Mix together 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of warm water, and 1 teaspoon of powdered laundry detergent until it forms a paste. (First test the mixture on an inconspicuous part of the clothing to make sure it doesn’t discolor the fabric) Gently scrub the stain with the paste using a toothbrush, then thoroughly rinse

  • Oil/Grease – sprinkle baking soda on the stain, let it sit for 30 minutes then shake off the baking soda. Cover the affected area with liquid dish soap, let it sit for 10 minutes then launder as usual on a warm setting.

  • Dried Paint – Saturate the stain with aerosol hairspray (make sure there is alcohol in the ingredients) and rub the fabric to loosen the paint (use a gentle toothbrush for delicate fabric, or a butter knife for less delicate fabrics). As you rub the stain, you should see the paint drying up and starting to come out of the fabric, continue rubbing it for a few minutes until you have a good amount of the paint loosened up (you may have to spray the fabric again and repeat the process, depending on how set the stain is or how large the stain is). Once you have most of the paint loosened up, run the fabric under hot water and spray the fabric with spot remover while doing so. Repeat as necessary until the stain is out.

  • Ink – Place a paper towel on the backside of the stain. Apply rubbing alcohol to the stain. Soak the garment for 15 minutes and blot until there are no transfers onto the blotting towel. Rinse under cool water. Launder using the hottest water temperature recommended.

  • Blood – Soak in cold water and rub until water no longer turns pink. Rinse and apply liquid laundry detergent directly onto the stain, allow it to sit before rubbing to remove. Launder on regular cycle.

You believed in Santa for how many years – you can believe in yourself for a few minutes! Don’t give up, the beginning is always the hardest, but it’s time to grow up!
